Vom Sterben zurück

Original title (German):Theobald Robert Jäger: Vom Sterben zurück
Vom Sterben zurück – Leben ohne Erinnerung –
Erfahrungen eines Koma-Patienten

English title translation:

Back from Dying – Life without Memory –
Experiences of a Coma Patient

Contents and description:

When Theobald Jäger woke up from his coma he could not remember anything. He did not recognize his wife and his daughter, he did not know who he was and what his name was, and he had forgotten basic skills such as walking, writing and calculating.
He was 25 years old when he had a cerebral haemorrhage. His doctors told his wife that there was a chance of 1:10,000 of surviving this massive bleeding in his brain. But he did survive!
Four years after his coma he even started working again. But it was not before 25 years after his coma that his short-time memory suddenly came back when he discovered in a furniture shop: I´ve been here before!!! And now his memories made it possible for him to depict his experiences during his time without memory! A unique situation that offers insight into a human condition similar to the one experienced by dementia patients, a condition that can normally never be described. The author and his wife have been in a great number of TV talk shows and there has been a wide press coverage of this case.
